Hi, online again, after a crazy trip to california... fun, but the weather was nuts!

normally, according to maps.google.com the trip is 1200 miles and 18 hours... so, the round trip should be 36 and 2400 right? well, because of snow, sleet, hail, and lots and lots of rain, it took 47 hours, and 600miles extra. And these miles were not at 60-70-80 which is typical in Cal... nope. we had to take the coastal roads, and so had hairpin turns at 20-30-40. AND i got pulled over 3x in 3 days! it was surreal. 2 tickets for a total of $310... this was not my best trip ever... in my 25 years of driving, i have only gotten 5 tickets, and now i just added 2 more...
beyond that, it was nice hanging with my mom for a week. i joked about "driving miss daisy", and said "yessa, massa, right away massa" a bunch. :-)
What a coincidence - I'm going to California Sunday for the week (business trip). And if my schedule works out, I may even get a tour of Google - including getting to see their SpaceShipOne replica - since I have a friend who works there.
Those coastal roads are beautiful, but do take a while. We drove coastal Rt 1 from Santa Rosa all the way to Solvang during our Honeymoon. Needless to say, that took a couple days...but it was beautiful.
nope, not for the speaking gig, that was practically in my back yard - about 2 hours away. i did that thursday, and it was great! will blog about that today. no the trip was for my mom, and her family. but she does not drive very well these days (eyes are going...) so i told her i'd help out.

I am sure that a trip up the coast with you new bride would be romantic... it is less so, with your mother... :-)
